Overview

What we set out to solve

Autobahn OS was a full-stack engagement to stand up a production-ready Android Automotive platform. Beyond a reference image, we owned BSP contracts, multi-display shell UX, infotainment app modules, and the OTA path that keeps fleets current without bricking vehicles in the field. The work sat at the intersection of OEM hardware teams, UX, and cloud services — with certification readiness as a non-negotiable exit criteria.

A production-grade AAOS platform with custom AOSP layers, infotainment apps, and hardware/BSP integration for OEM fleets.

Narrative

How the engagement moved from constraints to a shippable system.

01

Challenge

The OEM needed a stable Android Automotive stack that could absorb custom HAL layers, multi-display infotainment, and long-lifecycle OTA without fragmenting the platform.

02

Approach

We forked and hardened AOSP for AAOS, defined BSP contracts with the hardware team, and built a modular app framework for media, navigation, and vehicle controls.

03

Solution

Autobahn OS ships a certified-ready AAOS image, reference apps, and CI for board bring-up — reducing integration time for each new vehicle SKU.

Scope

What we delivered

Hardened AAOS / AOSP image family for two SoC variants

Custom infotainment shell spanning cluster + center display

Reference media, navigation, and vehicle-controls apps

BSP / HAL contract suite with CI flash + validation

Staged OTA pipeline with rollback safety

Integration playbooks for subsequent vehicle SKUs

Highlights

What stood out

Multi-display UX designed for glanceability and driver distraction rules

Shared app framework so OEM partners could extend features without forking the shell

Board bring-up time cut by aligning kernel, HAL, and application CI early

Long-lifecycle OTA strategy with canary cohorts and automatic rollback

Engagement flow

A repeatable rhythm from discovery through hardening — tuned to this product’s constraints.

01

Platform discovery

Mapped SoC constraints, display topology, certification gates, and existing HAL debt with OEM and Tier-1 partners.

02

BSP & image foundation

Stabilized kernel config, HAL contracts, and reproducible board images before app work scaled.

03

Shell & apps

Built the multi-display shell and modular apps against real vehicle hardware and distraction guidelines.

04

OTA & hardening

Instrumented OTA, soak tests, and release train readiness for pilot fleets.

Technology stack

The delivery stack behind this engagement — client surfaces paired with services, data, and infrastructure.
